The Struggles of Being a Glasses-Wearer (A.K.A. The Blind Life Chronicles)

I wear glasses, which means I am part of an elite society of people who experience a very specific set of struggles that non-glasses-wearers will never understand. Sure, they think glasses make us look smart and sophisticated, but little do they know… we’re out here battling foggy lenses, blurry vision, and the constant fear of where did I put my glasses?!

1. The "Blind Without Them" Struggle

Let’s get one thing straight: if I don’t have my glasses on, I am basically a helpless potato. Everything is a blurry mess, and I rely on vibes more than actual sight. If my glasses fall off, I have to do that awkward squint-and-pat-the-air-like-a-confused-grandma move to find them.

One time, I lost my glasses while wearing them on my head. I spent minutes looking for them and was ready to declare a national emergency before realizing they were sitting right there—mocking me.

2. The "Who Needs Sunglasses?" Problem

People always tell me, "You should get a nice pair of sunglasses!" Oh, should I? Do you know what happens when I try to wear sunglasses? I go completely blind. My options are:

  1. Wear regular sunglasses and see absolutely nothing.

  2. Try to put them over my glasses and look like a science experiment gone wrong.

  3. Get prescription sunglasses and spend my entire bank account on them.

None of these are ideal, so instead, I just suffer.

3. The "Foggy Lens Disaster"

Nothing humbles a glasses-wearer faster than stepping into a warm room from the cold. Instant fog. I can’t see. I can’t function. I just stand there awkwardly, waiting for my glasses to defrost like a windshield in winter. And don’t even get me started on the struggle of drinking a hot cup of tea or wearing a mask. Fog city.

4. The "Glasses Slide Down Every 5 Seconds" Phenomenon

I push my glasses up about 5,000 times a day. Sometimes, I don’t even realize I’m doing it anymore—it's a reflex at this point. The worst part? They never stay up. I can tighten them all I want, but somehow, gravity always wins.

5. The "Lying Down Is a Nightmare" Struggle

You ever try lying on your side while watching something? Yeah, not possible. Glasses are not designed for comfort. I either have to push them into my face at a painful angle or take them off and accept that I will only hear my show, not see it. The struggle is real.

Final Advice: Embrace the Glasses Life

Wearing glasses is a daily adventure, but honestly? I wouldn’t have it any other way. They’re part of who I am. Plus, I get to dramatically take them off before saying something serious—like in the movies. So, to my fellow glasses-wearers: May your lenses stay clean, your frames stay in place, and your search for lost glasses be short and painless.
